Based on contemporary developments concerning the protection of private property rights in the field ofinternational law, this article traces the development of the content and scope of indigenous collective land ownership rights protected by the innovative jurisprudence of the Inter-American Human Rights System (IAHRS) on the matter. From this perspective, it discusses how rulings on the matter are shaping will shape indigenous movements in Latin America and their strategies to define and advance their political objectives in the future.
